Mother’s Wedding Dress

It is every mother’s dream for her daughter to re-wear her wedding dress.When I got married my parents did not have a lot of money to spend on a wedding – they had just moved house. My Mother had made the wedding dress herself for her wedding in 1954.

So, it was decided that she would modernise it slightly and I would wear it on my wedding day in 1976. My Sister’s wedding day was in 1983, she also wore the dress.

My Mother still has the dress in her wardrobe. I don’t think we will have a Third generation to wear it.

So, when my friend asked if I could photograph her young daughter in a wedding dress- who was I to refuse?
Lucy is 9 and I am so excited to be sharing her photos with you. I have watched this little girl grow so much over the years. I know her Mummy and I had goosebumps shooting this session.

It was so special to Shelley, Lucy’s mum, especially to see her little girl in her gown. Unfortunately, Shelley’s own Mother was not here to see the session. I am sure she is watching down on us.

Shelley, Tilly (my assistant) and I had a lot of fun watching this little girl try and keep the dress on. It didn’t fit her at all, of course, and kept slipping down every couple of seconds. I have my secret way of keeping it in place. Lucy didn’t seem to mind and had a great time posing in her super-fancy dress clothes.
